All About You

THERE'S you, good old you, not too bad, not too good, safe, sure, reliable, steady as you go YOU!

A bit of a deterioration really from the perfect baby your mother claims you were.

What can you possibly add to the sum of yourself that would make you love yourself more?

Not something for the kids, or your husband or wife, or your friends.

No more self-sacrifice or feeling sorry for yourself.

Add something that makes you more valuable and lovable to the person you talk to all the time. That person is YOU!

Keep thinking for as long as it takes to find the value you want to add. Unless you're perfect already, it's generally not too hard to find a least one "If only...."

You know, if only I had the time, money, education, intelligence, talent, I would.....

If you're going to add value to yourself you must make yourself the top priority. You are, after all, the most urgent project you can possibly undertake.

Working on yourself is the single most rewarding thing you can do.

Eventually everyone you know will benefit hugely from the result.

"They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel."
~~ Carl W. Buechner

"If only, if only," the woodpecker sighs, "The bark on the tree was just a little bit softer." While the wolf waits below, hungry and lonely, He cries to the moo-oo-oon, "If only, if only." (from the book Holes) We can sit around waiting for just the right conditions (as I often do) but sometimes you just have to go for it. Norway here we come!

Hi Peggy, hope all is well in your corner of the world. It's a hot one over here but at least there's no dust. We are staying indoors out of the heat. I try to every day do something that's just for me -- like crafting, and in turn, I can brighten someone's day with a handmade gift. My kids are finished with school. I have 6 more working days and then we'll be in the States by the end of the month where we can enjoy the great outdoors. Best wishes to you always, Tammy

Hi Peggy,
Yes...we are all a work in progress. And it's really up to us if we want that progress to be in the directions we desire. Great reminder to really find those things that matter most to us...

Very true Peggy. And cats - well they are here to teach us aren't they?

But I must say that the single best piece of advice I ever read is just to accept yourself right now. For some of us (me included) this is harder than it sounds and is by no means the 'lazy' way out ;o)

Wonderful words, as always Peggy. That said, 'steady as you go' didn't really apply to me last night as I headed home from the pub...

Hope you had a great weekend!

McMGrad89 has me humming that now, "If only, if only..." :-)

I agree with you that it is so very rewarding to work on myself. I just picked up an interesting book on different types of meditation. It's something that I'd like to make a daily part of my life.

Candelaria - We are a work in progress and always will be until we draw our last breath.

Marja - Congrats on your promotion, how exciting. I am sure you deserved it. :)

Annemarie - Is that song from the Lion King? Come rain, hail, shine or ash we are going to make it to Norway and back.

Tammy - We obviously live in different worlds as it is freezing cold and wet here in Sydney. Wouldn't it be amazing if we bumped into each other in the States!

Christine - Thanks for the compliment.

Happy Organist - It is always about the cats....at least in my house anyway. They say jump and I say how high!

Lance - I wonder why it is so difficult to find the right direction?

Stoneweaver - I am going to remember your wise words....to accept myself right now, warts and all I presume.
I often wonder what Wilson and Ellie are teaching me....tolerance and how to cope with lack of sleep!

Mike - You need to use the 'steady as you go' mode when walking home from the pub.....I normally do and check out the stars in the sky too.

Jeri - I think you are a great candidate to take a message home from this post.....more me time for you is needed.

Jennifer - I wish meditation was part of my daily life....hopefully one day I will journey down that road.

Zhen - Yes I have mentioned Wilson's name since I started this blog back in August 2008. I guess your subconscious was paying attention.

I love myself well enough. Although I am my own toughest critic.

Your cats are awesome. They remind me of the siamese cats from Lady and the Tramp.

Hey Shannon
I used to be very tough on myself up until about 5 years ago but the more I accept and love myself the less critical of me I have become.

If I feel I have done something stupid I chastise myself, learn the lesson then continue on my journey hoping not to repeat that mistake again.

Thanks for your lovely comment about my cats. :-)
