Downside Up!

can you remember

when you were a kid

and you'd lie in the grass on your back

and watch the clouds scud above you

and dream of what you were going to be when you grew up?

well, what happened?

"Downside up, upside down
Take my weight off the ground
Falling deep in the sky
Slipping in the unknown"
~~ Peter Gabriel

This is how I saw Joseph downside up! - May 2010

Funny you should ask, Peggy. I never knew what I wanted to be. I didn't dream and say, I want to do this or that. I remember adamantly telling my mother, I do NOT want to be teacher. I remember going to my first day at a new school (transferred in a few weeks late) and they had already started career week. Each student picked what they wanted to be and wore a badge shaped like that. Since I didn't know or care, I couldn't guess, so I looked around at some of the other girls and picked stewardess. I didn't know I wanted to teach until a few years after grad school.

Maybe I should have been better at dreaming when I was young. When I know how this all turns out, I'll let you know.

When I was a kid? Hell, I was doing that last night - although I had, by that point, consumed several pints of foaming ale...Hope you are well, Peggy.

I still do that, but mostly at night with the stars

I sometimes wonder what my neighbours think of the strange girl who lays on her sidewalk with her dog staring at the sky at 4am
