Being Human..Interesting Rules

I was cleaning out my spare room and came across a sheet of paper entitled "Rules for Being Human".

I never knew there are rules for being a human. Actually the rules are not exactly the "rules" that state whether you're a real human or not. There's no such thing I guess. But these rules are more into the essence points in life that we, as a human, should be able to learn.

I am sure some of you have read them before, but it is an interesting read and a very nice reminder to get back to the basics of living.

Is living really as simple as it sounds using these rules. I suspect it is.

Society these days want us to think & perceive that life to complicated, WHY? For power, greed & oppression I suspect. I like the KISS principle "Keep It Simple Sweety".

1. You will receive a body.
You may like it or hate it, but it will be yours for the entire period this time around.

2. You will learn lessons.
You are enrolled in a full-time informal school called Life. Each day in this school you will have the opportunity to learn lessons. You may like the lessons or think them irrelevant and stupid.

3. There are no mistakes, only lessons.
Growth is a process of trial and error: experimentation. The "failed" experiments are as much a part of the process as the experiments that ultimately "work."

4. A lesson is repeated until learned.
A lesson will be presented to you in various forms until you have learned it. When you have learned it, you can then go on to the next lesson.

5. Learning lessons does not end.
There is no part of life that does not contain its lessons. If you are alive, there are lessons to be learned.

6. "There" is no better than "here."
When your "there" has become a "here," you will simply obtain another "there" that will again look better than "here."

7. Others are merely mirrors of you.
You cannot love or hate something about another person unless it reflects something you love or hate about yourself.

8. What you make of your life is up to you.
You have all the tools and resources you need. What you do with them is up to you. The choice is yours.

9. Life is exactly what you think it is.
You create a life that matches your beliefs and expectations.

10. Your answers lie inside you.
The answers to life's questions lie inside you. All you need to do is look, listen, and trust.

11. You will get what you ask for.
It may not be what you wanted, but it will be what you asked for.

12. You will forget all this.

- Cherie Carter-Scott from "Chicken Soup for the Soul"

I would like to add this one.
13. You can remember it whenever you want.

I climbed a mountain yesterday and when I reached the top this is what greeted me......it felt really wonderful being human.

wow, what a great view!! Perfect to illustrate the Being Human tips (I knew I was recognizing it, but couldn't remember from when or where-- thanks for saying where it came from or I might've been stumped for weeks)

I hate rules -but these are not so bad!
The view taken on your walk is gorgeous. As I get older I realise that such glimpses of the world around us are ever more important.CJ

I have been up there many many times but it was mostly in my teenage years and often we were up to no good!

And I haven't read on being human for ages ...a lovely reminder.

Peg,
I have not read this exact list before, but I must say I like it. I especially resonate with #6 and 7. More and more each year, as I age, I realize that, truly, there is no better place than here, even when it is challenging. Why? Because I am always being invited into greater growth, into a greater experience of my humanity, as well as my divinity, and THAT is a sacred process indeed!

Congrats on climbing the mountain! the view is stunning! Blessings to you...

what? there are RULES for being a human? no wonder it is such a chore to identify with the rest of the human species :P

I still maintain I was born to be an alien :)

9. Life is exactly what you think it is.
You create a life that matches your beliefs and expectations.

oh good. I'll keep PRAYING for what I want. it'll happen someday.
dang dang dang dang dang

such a punk

(punk b/c if I were to get what I want 'right now' I'd be in a heap o' trouble) ;(

hehehehe

and then I suppose if I got what I REALLY want (and not the superficial crap I have on my mind right now) I'd be.. hmm..
well apparently I wouldn't be happy. b/c if I would be, God would give it to me right now. So there's probably a reason. And I (magic word) Believe that reason is - there's something better in store. both now and later.

isn't it annoying when God has better ideas than you do? I mean I have some REALLY good ideas.. but 'apparently' they're not that good - since none of them are coming to pass right now.

=D

this is so true, especially the part about lessons repeating themselves until you learn. Aint that the truth. I love this list and think I am going to print it out as a reminder, not to fight the current but to go along for the ride

Hi Peggy!

I particularly like the one about getting a body.... Now, if I'll just take better care of it! I also like #8 and #9 for my students. I may just have to share those with them this week. THIS WEEK! The students' first day is Thursday....

I may never get to Australia, but if I do, I want to climb this mountain with you. What a beautiful view... definitely a reward for being human!

I like this list of being human - we will need it after the 'Rise of the Machines' a la Terminator-style ;o)

No, seriously, I'm with you on number 13 and I reject number 12!! Logically, according to point 9, I will make it happen, so I'd rather opt for number 13!! Although my memory is pretty unreliable.... or is it because I think it is??? Ohhhh...

If you want the glorious view - you have to climb the mountain ;o) Like that view!!!

Great view. I am not showing Caitlin as this will just intensify her bugging me as to when I will be taking her to Australia. LOL

I think I will have to recover from Norway first.

I'm head over heels in love with this post. It makes me laugh and it stirs my soul. Apart from nodding my head to each one of the rules, I also love this one - its my own rules of living :

I live by my ASS (authenticity, simplicity and synchronicity).

Great Post! :)

I like #4. A lesson is repeated until learned. Unfortunately, it may take my "lessons" and that sometimes hurts doesn't it. How many times I have said about a reoccuring situation..."when will I learn!" it is usually followed by ....THEY will never change! Then I answer for myself...of course they won't. They are human!
Then I work to change my response.

Peggy, thanks for sharing this list. I believe so many of them. I have never seen them in a list before. I printed them out so I can be reminded of them often.
