Possibility

I'm thinking about two especially frightening mental places to find yourself in life.

The one where you think everything is limited.

And the one where you realize that everything is possible.

Everything and Nothing!

There is truth in the statement that everything is limited.

And there is also truth in the statement that everything is possible. And there is the truth of the continuum.

Part of accessing possibility is the ability to ask, “What else is true here?”

"Truth is stranger than fiction, but it is because Fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities; Truth isn't."
~~ Mark Twain (American Humorist, Writer and Lecturer. 1835-1910)

I took this photo at Sculpture by the Sea on 29th October 2010. The artist Peter Tilley called it "Dreams of ordinary people". He also made a statement - "Imagining a voyage through time: a journey through life's obstacles".

Good Saturday morning, Peggy !
I like this life example sculpture.

I'm experiencing this right now......but carrying on, hoping for the best.

Have a beautiful day, my friend. Hugs, Sunny Nelson

You are an inspiration Sunny. You live life with the glass half full attitude. When you run into a negative situation in life you do not dwell on the negativity that has been forced upon you, you find all the positives and focus on them. I admire that immensely.
Hope you have a beautiful weekend too. :-)

Everything is limited and everything is possible Two seemingly simple expressions. You could talk about them however for ages. Could they be true both at the same time. COuld one be true for some and one for somebody else. You've got me thinking now. Oh and I love that sculptures. Seems there are a lot of interesting sculptures overthere

Marja they are simple expressions aren't they AND they could both be true at the same time.

When I realise that every point connects to every other point it doesn’t matter where I start, as long as I do so with conscious intention.

Also it makes me think of Picasso, "learn the rules so you know how to break them properly". Learning a pattern in order to have the choice to consciously break out of the pattern. Knowing how you’re breaking the pattern, and why. Classical portraiture into Cubism.

Glad you love the sculptures. It is my favourite time of the year to walk amongst such beautiful and creative art.

Arohanui and big hugs. :-)

Truth is stranger than fiction - as in, 'honest, dear, I've only had one pint on the way home...'

A quite thought-provoking post Peggy.

And yet another post that gets me thinking... you always do that to me dear, and I love it!!

now there's a sculpture that suggests a few possibilities! Sometimes you're too deep for me Peggy, but you do get me to think which is a good thing.

Wow - that is a powerful quote. I love it!!

I agree - it's all about intention. Just look at Jon Stewart (sorry Peg I'm going to have to give him a name check again), he has a great intention and look where it has led him. I bet when he started out as a stand up comedian he never dreamed he would be addressing a huge rally in front of the Whitehouse!

Sorry to be a downer, but that sculpture speaks to me of death. The hollowed out shape could be a boat and not a coffin though. A journey either way..

Whatever it says, I know that one day I want to experience Sculptures by the sea, because of your photographs and words.

Everything is limited and everything is nothing - to me depends on whether that door is open or closed in your mind.

Great post Peggy.
Thankyou

Mike - You always make me smile, thank you for being YOU!

Marit - I am very pleased that I get your thinking juices flowing because you get my creative juices flowing with you wonderful artwork.

Christine - It is a sculpture that can be construed in many different ways. Regarding my DEEP thinking, there are some days when everything clicks naturally and my awareness effortlessly shifts into a deeper state, other days, well other days I think like a child!

Robyn - It is definitely one of those subjects that can be discussed ad infinitum!
You are one of my favourite bloggers Robyn, you always inspire and enlighten me with your varied and interesting posts.

Stoneweaver - The quote is a beauty isn't it!! It is such a joy for me finding the right quote to fit my post.
I know Jon Stewart is your hero. Maybe he did know that one day he would be the super star he is today, if he thought everything is possible! Hope you get to meet him one day.

Chapter Forty - Hey no need to apologise, when I first saw the sculpture I thought it was a coffin.

To me, one of the problems is in thinking that this is an either/or situation. That we’re doomed to complete limitation or endless freedom. In practice, both limitation and freedom appear in our lives. And both can be useful. It’s about finding what works for us.

I feel a lot of tenderness when I think about possibility and limitation. I think that, for me, thinking about limits and possibilities needs to include tiny steps (into the unknown, or into new limitations). And at the same time, it needs to include things to make me feel safe in uncharted territory. And I always need to know that I can take a step backward if I don’t feel safe with the new-ness. All of this has to do with knowing where we are and learning more about ourselves.

If you are ever in Sydney please let me know, I would love to see Sculpture by the Sea with you and your family.

Take care :-)

And I am stuck in the middle of those two. Knowing everything is possible but feeling like everything is limited. I need to bust through that wall with my huge fists!

miruspeg said...

Hey Pretty on the Inside as I said to Chapter Forty tiny steps will get you to whereever you want to go. Have a goal, find inspiration, get excited, think about it daily, get support, realise there is an ebb and flow and stick with it.
Think of your goal as a long journey with lots of little bumps in the road and your tiny steps will add up to a lot of progress and a lot of success.
Also think about the benefits and not the difficulties.

If all else fails then use your huge fists to bust through that wall....LOL.

Ahh and the connection of both is: "Everything IS"...

The continuum of life IS...
the chaos of life IS,
the Unity of Life IS,
Unconditional Love IS...
If everything IS, then what else is there? What else do we need?

It's one for all and all for IS!

It's good to be touring this glorious world of IS. I have missed blogging and am glad to have found a balance and be back... ALL IS!

Blessings to you and yours my friend.
Love and Light, Nina P

Hello Nina lovely to read your input! You always add something special to the conversation.
"Everything Is" interesting concept.

It reminds me of a quote:
"All things appear and disappear because of the concurrence of causes and conditions. Nothing ever exists entirely alone; everything is in relation to everything else."
~~~ Buddha
Love and light coming your way too my dear friend. :-)
Hello! I decided that it didn't matter whether I blogged or not, I want to visit every now and then. I've missed you!
I'm not surprised to find something thought-provoking here. It's so true.... Too many people limit themselves because they are afraid of stepping outside the ordinary. It does take small steps to begin the journey. But once your feet get going, the possibilities meet you half way.
miruspeg said...
Well hello my long lost blogger, lovely to see your face again!
Your comment is so true, if we can remember to take tiny steps and when faced with obstacles, walk around them....we just need to trust our intuition and the journey will be fruitful.
Roban I have missed your insightful comments and reading your blog, but I realise how full your "real life" is, so if you can pop in every now and again, that would be fantastic.
Big hugs
Peggy xxx
boy I'm slow. D'you see that movie "Stranger than Fiction"? That's one of my favorites. I have FELT like I am at that "everything is possible" stage for the last several months. It IS pretty intimidating. And I've always been of the mindset that the 'everything is possible' is more daunting than 'everything is limited.'
That said.. I do feel a bit more 'limited' now. It feels kind of nice. (although sort of p* me off as well.. to be honest ;D )
hahah
HO I loved the movie "Stranger Than Fiction". Will Farrell was great and I never thought I'd say that about him. I've never been a big fan of his, but in this movie he nailed the role. Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thomson were also very good in their parts.
I thought there were so many layers to this film. If they had just stuck to getting the voice out of his head the movie would have flopped. But they went beyond that. This is also a movie about having control of ones own life as well as having the power to control others - and how to face both of those situations...much like the senario "everything is possible and everything is limited".
Looks like Fiction isn't always obliged to stick to possibilities!!!
Hope you have a great week. :D)
but, a big fan of Emma. =)
