Fleeting Moments

It is only now we have entered the final month that it has dawned on me that we are at the end of a "9" year and therefore a decade (whatever certain purists may say). Ten years gone in the blink of an eye. A billion fleeting moments merging together.

The ninnily named "noughties" are over and on January 1 we will be heading into what is already being called the even more ghastly "tennies"...a most unfortunate tag!

I'm amazed this event has snuck up on me, as the last decade was a momentous occasion in my life, which I seemed to spend most of the previous year anticipating and analysing.

Obviously, 10 years ago was the BIG one - the great Y2K crisis. Oh, how hilarious was that??

I am so glad I have kept a book entitled "Surviving the Y2K Crisis in Australia". It's such a brilliant reminder of the temporary insanity that gripped us. One passage that particularly sticks in my mind was the advice to keep sacks of lentils in your attic. I wonder if anyone is still eating them. For those people, this would have been the Dhal Decade.

But putting that detail aside, it was undeniably a big and thrilling thing to live through the turning of a millennium. It'll be 1000 years before anyone gets to do it again. Heck, I even learned to spell it - and of course it was all the more thrilling to celebrate it in Sydney, knowing that in a matter of months there would be more fireworks for the opening of the Olympics.

As to what the "tennies" will bring, I can't sniff much on the wind. A lot more technology presumably. The next social networking phenomenon. Or maybe a reaction against all that.

I just hope that someone comes up with a better name for it.

What I do know is I will be travelling far and wide, connecting, hugging, laughing, dancing with many of my blogging buddies!!

"The best thing about dreams is that fleeting moment, when you are between asleep and awake, when you don't know the difference between reality and fantasy, when for just that one moment you feel with your entire soul that the dream is reality, and it really happened.”

Circular Quay, Sydney, September 2008, where many of us celebrated the turning of the millennium back in 2000.

I gladly welcome the tennies. I am so glad to know I will get to spend the first summer of the tennies with you. When we are old and gray, we will sit and talk about the fun we had in the tennies.
Louise: Do remember that trip we took way back in 2010?
Thelma: Boy, do I?
.
.
.
I can only imagine how that conversation will end.

So here's to the tennies. Long may they reign...or at least 10 years may they reign.

Hi Peggy! It was pretty neat (I was just thinking of this the other day) that we got to live through the turn of the century. Pretty cool. (i mean millennium). It's all the same, right? Very fun.

Cody had an all-night party at his work that year (working, that is.. well just being there for customer support - just in case). As I remember correctly, nothing happened (crash-wise), of course. But it was pretty exciting anyway!

Here's to another pile of 10's in the future (may they all fly by). Yeah I know I'll regret saying that later. =/
;P

i can't believe I Almost regret saying it Now. sheesh. am I a sap

Hi! I had to laugh about the sack of lentils! I wonder what all of those people did with that stuff that they stored!

The past 10 years have not been the best; I am looking forward to the next 10! :)

I agree. It is remarkable that we are on the cusp of an entirely new decade.

Aye, the 'tennies'. I think I prefer the tinnies - there's a few beers in the fridge which will certainly have disappeared by January 1st...

Have a great week!

The number 9 is the Goddess number. But what is 10? Hmmm - maybe a computer number? 1 and 0 ? Binary code. It seems fitting with the growth of computers generally. I actually like the term 'tennies'! When we get to 2013 - we can call it the teenies!

I saw the millennium in at Avebury Ring. I felt it was a place that might still be standing by the next millennium (though it might be encroached by skyscrapers by then). I wonder where I'll be?

2010 is going to be fab year I just know it!

I love that line! I love this song.

What a reminder! I didn't worry too much about Y2K, although I did keep my fingers crossed that my online banking would still be safe after the fireworks had ceased to light up the sky.... and it was.

Time does dash by, doesn't it? Ten years ago (January), Hannah was just four. Now she's soon to be 14. How incredible that these years can blur together so.

I'm looking forward to meeting you and other blog buddies in the tennies. That will certainly be a highlight of that decade!

Sheesh, Peggy- you finally say hello and *poof* it's as you walk out the door! I never did buy into that ky2 thing or whatever it was. Though I do always hope for chaos. Have a great ten. ~rick

Peg, I am greatly looking forward to what this new year and decade will bring. I am hopeful that we will wise up and live with our hearts, be more generous and kind than we have ever been. Such a pleasure to have met you this year! Blessings to you as the holidays approach.

How about the Tweens!!
Oh time, time to be here, do that, go here, read this, time to sing, talk listen... I like the thought of time being a fuzzy continuum of energy. Linear at times, Horizontal or vertical in others. Time Flies and Time stands still. I experienced this a few times. I was riding with someone to a Reiki class and we got to talking along the way. We gave ourselves an hour to get there as it was a 45 minute drive from my house. My friend was driving and we ended up near Buffalo, NY over an hour's drive away at the relaxed speed we were going. Yet, we'd only been in the car for 30 minutes. Honest, true story. We had missed our exit and had to turn around and back track to the house we were meeting at and, well, we made it there and were only 20 minutes late... There is no physical way possible when you look on a map that this occurred.... So you see time gets fuzzy and well.... can do anything.
I feel the New decade will be one of awakenings. We've opened the door the past 10 years but I feel we are just realizing as a people that there is so much more.... One person at a time, One thought at a time, One word, One photo, One blog (such as yours), One can change everything. One drop of wine can overflow a glass, One smile can change a life.... You get where I'm going I'm sure...
May the Peace Love, Hope and Joy of the past decade multiply and follow you and yours into the next. Blessings to you and yours my friend. May you have Love, Joys and Laughter beyond imagination... Blessings. Love and Light, Nina P

I was just thinking about this this morning, Peg! What do we call this next decade? Has someone named it already? I can't believe that 10 years has gone by in the blink of an eye. 10 years ago I was making the huge decision to leave my 24 year marriage, being on my own as a single parent, not knowing how in the world I was going to "make it," but I did--with not too many bumps and bruises. LIfe has unfolded brilliantly--so true, if we just trust. May your 2010 be glorious and brilliant too! xo
